Music has always been a big part of my life. My mom taught piano, my dad is a classical music buff, I grew up in a total musical immersion. After all the violin, singing, piano, listening, I agree with the philosophy that sometimes you feel something so powerful you have to "sing what can't be said". Here are some music moments I've had recently that I thought I'd share.
"It takes a moment to fall in love, but I lifetime to learn what love is." -Jason Mraz
The tune is mediocre but I love the lyrics. I heard it for the first time on my run and replayed it two more times just so I could focus on the lyrics.
"This is how it works, you peer inside yourself, take the things you like and try to love the things you took and then you take that love you made and stick it into someone elses heart pumping someone elses blood." -Regina Spektor
I wish I could sing/play like Regina. I've lost count of how many times I've listened to "On the Radio" and the music video for "Fidelity".
"I love love. I love being in love, I don't care what it does to me." They played that song in the play I saw tonight. Its one of those happy, catchy, pick me up songs that I enjoy getting stuck in my head.
"Look how she lights up the sky, Ma belle Evangeline." Deseret got the Princess and the Frog for her birthday and I realized earlier this week how much I like that song. I wonder if I've ever "lit up the room" by entering it or smiling.
"Don't hold your breath til your face turns blue.
Its time to accept that he's not that into you.
Don't keep holding on til your old and gray.
Lifes already too short so stop wasting away.
Count all the stars in the sky until the morning's light
Go out and dance in the rain until the sun will shine
Step out from the darkness, wake up and open your eyes.
Face your life one step at a time.
You're all alone and you're feeling green
Wishin', prayin', hopin' for what might have, could have been.
Just keep on believing, keep on standing strong.
You hit the ground runnin' girl and then your gone.
chorus
Sometimes my heart bleeds like the dawn, red across the horizon.
Sometimes I want to break down and cry.
Just keep on breathing, keep on believing that someone will find you, someone will love you.
Someday soon you'll see the sun will rise.
We'll count all the stars in the sky until the morning's light
Go out and dance in the rain and I will hold you tight
I see my whole world when I see that look in your eyes
Livin' life one step at a time.
Don't hold your breath til your face turns blue.
Open your eyes and inhale."
I don't write a lot of music and I don't ever perform for other people, but this is one of the songs I've written. It seems to be a recurring theme in my life. Someday I may figure out enough piano or guitar to find an accompaniment for the tune... for now I feel at least comfortable enough to share the lyrics.
Well, that's all for now. Now for some light reading before I go to bed.
