Why Dating is Complicated

Sometimes I feel dating should be a lot more simple than it really is. I know the sorts of things I'm looking for in a guy. Why can't dating be as easy as taking a trip to the local Chick-Fil-A Drive Thru?

"I'll have a Good Churchy Man sandwich with no mustache, a Tall, Dark, and Handsome, not diet, and ohh.... How about a side of Humor with lots and LOTS of Adventurous Nerdy sauce."

Well, last night I was talking to a new friend who reminded me of this theory I had toyed around with about a month ago. Lucky you, friend reader, here's a blog post all about it.

We tell people the sort of person we're looking for in a potential significant other and, most of the time, the answers we share are all about the same. You may think we all just want the same things but then we'd all be attracted to the same people so no, that's not it. We're just not being specific enough. You say you want a man who is smart. All right, what kind of smart? You have street smart, book smart, people smart, etc. In addition to this there is a whole scale that goes along with each category. Nobody is all smart or all stupid. There's a spectrum and each of us lands somewhere in between both extremes.



So, when you say you'd like to marry someone smart, everyone has a different image of that kind of smart is and the degree of smartness. You may be thinking Harvard PHD in Quantum Mechanics and she may be thinking you tell him something once and he won't forget it an hour later.

Then lets consider the dynamics of character. Most of us are not so volatile that we'll become someone completely different out of the blue but we are all still constantly changing, developing into someone new, for better or for worse. The people we consider dating are likewise changing so not only do we have to consider where they seem to rank in each of these subcategories but consider if they're planned life projectory is, for the most part, compatible with your projectory. Yep... dating is complicated

And this friends is why I'm grateful for personal revelation. As much as I love strategy, the dating game sometimes feels like a 6 hour game of Risk that just refuses to end. I'm usually tempted to forfeit after hour 3. However, knowing that God has things set up so that I will be a winner at some point, so long as I play the game right, makes everything totally worth it. So here I am Dating World! I will conquer you!!! Red cannon strikes Brazil!!! Mwa ha ha ha!!!!!!
