Today my coworker showed me this website called Spokeo.com. Kinda weirded me out. Tried searching Jill Schuler. Apparently I'm a married 40 year old woman with kids still living with my parents in Minnesota. I also have young grandchildren, enjoy coin collecting, baseball, and interior design... One might be inclined to think this information was about my mother, but she has her own profile... If I searched with my e-mail address a different set of information showed up. Apparently most of that information came from this blog which startled me.
I like the idea of keeping this blog public amongst people I already know. Its set up so that the only way you can find it is if you already know where it is. That information is only publicly displayed on facebook with a "friends only" guard. I'm fine with the idea of someone I already know on a whim discovering the blog from facebook, taking a peak, getting a real glimpse of the sort of person I am. Its not like I'm ashamed of anything I've ever said on my blog... There are things relating to my personal life which will never appear on this blog (family issues, certain specifics about my dating life, etc) but I like being fairly open about things. Its kind of therapeutic to throw ideas into the great void of my blog knowing that someone someday might read it and understand the real Jill Schuler.
This still doesn't stop me from being uneasy about my information floating around on this Spokei website. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Its not like half the information was accurate... Still, its the principle of the thing...
